I am Esther Charlestin, and I am running for Lieutenant Governor because Vermont needs leadership that is bold, grounded, and deeply people-centered.

My career has been shaped by one core belief. When people feel heard, supported, and respected, real change becomes possible. As an educator, organizational leader, and working mom, I have spent years helping communities navigate tough conversations, solve complex challenges, and build cultures rooted in trust.

Before launching my consulting firm, Conversation Compass, I served as Dean of Climate and Culture working closely with educators, students, and families to create inclusive, student-centered learning environments. I also held leadership roles at Middlebury College and Bryant University, supporting students, advancing restorative practices, and strengthening community standards with fairness and care.

Today, through Conversation Compass, I work with schools, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations across Vermont. I help them lead with clarity, empathy, and purpose. That experience, listening deeply, bringing people together, and turning values into action, is exactly what I will bring to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

I am running because too many Vermonters are being pushed to the edge by rising costs, under-resourced schools, and an economy that does not reflect our values. We deserve leadership that is not afraid to be present, ask hard questions, and deliver practical solutions.

As Lieutenant Governor, I will lead with confidence, compassion, and accountability, always grounded in the lives of the people I serve.

Our Values

Vermonters shouldn’t have to choose between housing, food, childcare, and healthcare. I’ll fight for practical, people-first solutions that lower everyday costs and help families stay rooted in the communities they love.

  • Expand affordable and workforce housing by cutting red tape and supporting community-led development

  • Invest in childcare by supporting providers and expanding access for working families

  • Protect working families through fair wages and cost-of-living supports.

Everyday Costs

Public education is the foundation of opportunity. As a former educator and school leader, I know what schools need and I’ll always stand with educators, students, and families.

  • Advocate for school funding that is sustainable and equitable

  • Support educators with fair pay, development opportunities, and reduced burnout

  • Ensure schools are safe, inclusive, and prepared for today’s challenges

Education

Everyone deserves the freedom to grow, change paths, and build a life that works for them. That means an economy that supports workers, small businesses, and innovation in every corner of Vermont.

  • Build career pathways through workforce training, apprenticeships, and education

  • Support small businesses and entrepreneurs with access to capital and fair regulations

  • Strengthen rural infrastructure, including broadband and transportation.
